Biography
Johanna Keogh, a forward charging artist with a significant body of work, completed her Masters degree at Chelsea College of Art & Design. During her MFA, she studied painting, drawing, writing, sculpture, video and performance.
She has been published in FGM magazine (Fashion Glamor Music) as a writer with several articles, and was Managing Editor. She has previous experience from her co-ownership of Shakti Innovations, a company she also co-founded. It started from a concept and $1,200 in self-seed money in 1997, and became a successful company, creating and manufacturing products for the high-end audio market, selling them worldwide. Throughout this period she also produced a substantial body of independent work consisting mainly of paintings. She also gained commissions for the Hindu Tryptic and Golden Pagoda, and exhibited at OCCCA (Orange County Center for Contemporary Art) with the painting series Conversations.
Prior to this, she was a model and performer for eight years, and traveled widely, working in London, Paris, Tokyo, and Los Angeles, and visiting Rome and South Korea. Her clients included Cosmopolitan-Paris, Shu Uemura, Shape magazine, Gap, Woman’s World, Woman’s Own, Moujan, Belinda Carlylse, OMD, Blox, Bob Segar, WWD, Kyocera, and Robbie Neville, among hundreds of others. Her time spent exploring imparted to her an appreciation of culture, architecture and a love of nature.
She studied graphic design at the London College of Communication and Somerset College of Arts and Technology. She specialized in graphic design, logo design, drawing, book design, magazine layout, and typographic design.
From her early life, her potential was evident. Born in Hackney, London to Irish Catholic parents and a large family, Keogh’s diverse childhood encouraged her creative abilities to surface early. They were recognized by those surrounding her, including the headmaster (who urged her to consider the arts as a vocation), and by school governors. While continuing to study painting and drawing in high school, for her, the Arts developed into a life-long passion.
Through her extensive exposure by working with other creative industry professionals, she developed an ability to work in a creative and spontaneous manner, even within strict parameters and while planning projects and supervising others. Her life experience has given her a unique voice. As a consequence of various events in her life, the artist has been provided with valuable knowledge and insight, enabling her to explore subjects hitherto left in the dark.
